Particulate matter (PM) refers to tiny particles suspended in the air, varying in size and composition, often originating from various sources like vehicle exhaust, industrial emissions, construction activities, and natural processes like wildfires and dust storms. These particles, categorized based on size as PM10 (less than 10 micrometers) and PM2.5 (less than 2.5 micrometers), are small enough to be inhaled deeply into the lungs, bypassing the body's defense mechanisms. Their minuscule size enables them to penetrate the respiratory system, causing a range of health issues from irritation and coughing to more severe conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and cardiovascular problems.
Long-term exposure to particulate matter is linked to increased mortality rates, particularly affecting vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions. Additionally, certain particles may carry toxic substances, further exacerbating health risks. VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a diverse group of chemicals emitted as gases from various solids and liquids. They are commonly found in household products such as paints, cleaning agents, and furnishings, as well as in industrial processes.
While VOCs contribute to the formation of ozone and smog in the atmosphere, their most immediate concern lies in their adverse health effects. Exposure to VOCs can lead to a range of health issues, including irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, headaches, nausea, and even damage to the liver, kidney, and central nervous system. Some VOCs are also known or suspected carcinogens, posing long-term health risks. NITROGEN OXIDES
Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are a group of highly reactive gases composed of nitrogen and oxygen molecules. They are primarily produced from combustion processes, such as those in vehicles, power plants, and industrial facilities. While NOx plays a role in the formation of ozone and acid rain, its most significant impact on human health stems from its contribution to air pollution.
NOx reacts with other pollutants in the atmosphere to form harmful particulate matter and ground-level ozone, which can exacerbate respiratory conditions like asthma and bronchitis. CARBON MONOXIDE

CARBON DIOXIDE
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a naturally occurring gas that is essential for life on Earth, playing a crucial role in the carbon cycle and photosynthesis. However, in high concentrations, carbon dioxide can pose serious health risks to humans. When levels of CO2 in the air rise beyond normal levels, such as in confined spaces or poorly ventilated areas, it can lead to a condition known as hypercapnia. RADON
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that forms from the decay of uranium in soil, rock, and water. It can seep into buildings through cracks in the foundation, gaps in floors, and other openings, accumulating to dangerous levels indoors. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking and is responsible for thousands of deaths each year worldwide. When inhaled, radon decay products emit alpha particles that can damage lung tissue, leading to lung cancer over time. Unlike other gases, radon is odorless and colorless, making it undetectable without specialized testing equipment.
